Resumen

This paper aims to reflect on how cultural challenges can be crucial for students toward creating an honest engagement in learning new languages. The approach for the paper came about from the language and cultural barriers faced by SUNY Geneseo students that participated in an Anthropology course in Cuba for 15 days. Furthermore, our research presents data of the cultural experiences and language challenges experienced by SUNY Geneseo students that have participated in Study abroad programs. The paper reflects on the capacity and manners in which students overcome these difficulties at three different language speaking levels different from English. Finally, the objective of the paper intends to recognize the importance of group support when overcoming difficulties in day-to-day life overseas.
