In an effort to pursue new ideas and paths doing hands-on real world research with an artistic qualitative style, I have proposed using participative art research as a methodology for creating knowledge and relationship for young Cuban and Canadian art students with the following objectives in mind :

  • To become receptive to the people's experience, world views, and daily life.
  • To create intercultural empathy and admiration.
  • To create collaborative art projects that bring together different groups using the language of art.

This paper will synthesize and analyse an 8 year experience of bringing 17-20 year old art students from Montréal, Québec to Holguin, Cuba to engage with La Escuela El Alba, and especially with the students there, creating collaborative art projects, friendship, solidarity and creativity between all those concerned.
